Steven I. Hochberg, Co-Founder, Chairman

Steve has been an active founder and investor in early stage medical technology companies for over 15 years. Companies co-founded by Steve include Eminent Research Systems Inc., Clinsights, Inc., Med-E-Systems/AHT Corporation and Physicians' Online. Steve is also the founder and General Partner of Ascent Biomedical Ventures. He serves on the Board of Directors of Synecor, LLC, Crosstrees Medical, Inc., and Ouroboros, Inc. Additionally, he is a member of the Board of Governors for the New York Academy of Sciences and a member of the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee and Chairman of the Finance Committee for Continuum Health Partners. Steve was an investment banker with Alex Brown & Sons and a strategy consultant with Bain & Company in the technology and healthcare sectors. He has a B.B.A. from the University of Michigan and received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Kenneth G. Hayes, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer

Ken joined Biomerix Corporation as President and CEO in March 2008. He has established and led executive teams through the product development, clinical research, and commercial rollout of a wide range of medical devices. He has a track record of identifying and successfully executing substantial business partnerships and brings to Biomerix a breadth of financial, strategic and operational experience and relationships.

Ken previously served as President and CEO of Radiant Medical, which was acquired by Zoll Medical in 2007. From 1997 to 1999, Ken was President of Surgical Navigation Technologies and on the Management Board of Sofamor Danek which was acquired by Medtronic in 1999. Prior to that, Ken served as President of USCI, a division of C.R. Bard, as President/CEO of MDI Instruments which he helped to found, and as President/COO of American Surgical Technologies. Ken began his medical device career with Johnson & Johnson, where he spent 17 years in a range of progressively more senior positions with Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Vistakon and Ethicon, Inc. He started his career with Procter & Gamble after graduating with a B.S. degree in Business Administration & Marketing with honors from Marist College.

Peter D. Costantino, MD, FACS, Co-Founder

Dr. Costantino is a co-founder of Biomerix Corporation and a current member of the Board of Directors. Dr. Costantino is Co-Director of the Center for Cranial Base Surgery at Roosevelt Hospital, Vice-Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Centers, and Associate Professor; Department of Otolaryngology/ Head & Neck Surgery at The Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. Dr. Costantino is dual board certified in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, and in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is also dual fellowship trained in Head & Neck Oncologic/Reconstructive Surgery, and in Cranial Base Tumor Surgery. Dr. Costantino spearheaded the development of collagen-based soft tissue implants that generate new, living tissue in patients. He also developed the first calcium phosphate-based cement for human cranio-facial reconstruction. Dr. Costantino founded Osteogenics Corporation that developed the calcium phosphate reconstructive cement that is now sold under the trade names of Bone Source®, and Hydroset® by Stryker Corporation. Dr. Costantino also served on the Board of Directors of LifeCell Corporation and was a co-founder of Parallax Medical. Dr. Costantino was granted a B.S. degree from the University of Notre Dame and a medical degree with high honors from Northwestern University.

Morton P. Hyman

Mr. Morton Hyman is Founder and Principal of MPH Enterprises, LLC, a private equity investment company. He is retired from Overseas Shipholding Group, Inc., owners and operators of one of the world's largest tanker fleets engaged in the transportation of bulk commodities in the domestic and international markets, having served as President from 1971 through 1999; President and Chief Executive Officer 1999 to 2003 and Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2000 to 2003. Mr. Hyman has an extensive history of civic activities, most notably Chairman of the Board of the Sabin Vaccine Institute, a Fellow and Member of the Board of Trustees of The New York Academy of Medicine, and as a member of the Board of the New York Academy of Sciences. He also serves as Chairman Emeritus, Board of Trustees, Continuum Health Partners, Inc., a nonprofit hospital system in New York City and as a Member of the Board of Overseers at The Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. Mr. Hyman is an alumnus of Cornell Law School.

John T. Preston

Mr. Preston is founder of C Change Investments as well as President and CEO of Continuum Energy Technologies LLC (CET) and a Senior Lecturer at M.I.T. Mr. Preston's primary expertise is in energy, environment, technology, and entrepreneurship. Before starting CET, Mr. Preston was the Director of Technology Development (and Licensing) at M.I.T., where he was responsible for the commercialization of intellectual property developed at M.I.T. In that capacity, he oversaw activities that led to the creation of hundreds of new technology-based companies as well as the negotiation of thousands of licenses with existing companies. He also oversaw many complex negotiations including the creation of the U.S. standard for high definition television, while representing M.I.T. on the HDTV Grand Alliance. Mr. Preston received a B.S. in physics from the University of Wisconsin and a M.B.A. from Northwestern University. Mr. Preston is Honorary Alum of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Stanton J. Rowe

Stanton currently holds the positions of Chief Scientific Officer and Corporate Vice President of Advanced Technology at Edwards Lifesciences. He is responsible for all internal early stage development work at Edwards Lifesciences, as well as efforts to identify external technologies focused on developing a range of minimally invasive and percutaneous approaches to heart valve replacement or repair. Stanton previously served as President and CEO of Percutaneous Valve Technologies Inc. (PVT), which was acquired by Edwards in January 2004. Prior to PVT, which he helped to found in 1999, Stanton was Corporate Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Planning for Datascope Corp. He also held the position of Vice President of Business Development for Johnson & Johnson's Interventional Systems Division (JJIS), responsible for the company's coronary stent development efforts. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama.

Geoffrey W. Smith

Geoff is the Managing Partner of Ascent Biomedical Ventures, a New York based seed and early stage investor in biomedical technology companies including medical devices and drugs. Geoff has been an active founder, manager, and investor in healthcare and technology companies since 1995. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Anterios, Inc., Azevan Pharmaceuticals, Biomerix Corporation, Metronome Therapeutics, and TargAnox, Inc., and is a Board Observer for Cara Therapeutics. Geoff is a Visiting Scholar at Rockefeller University where he founded and directs the University's Science & Economics Program. He is also a member of the Leadership Council of the Biomedical Research Institute at Brigham & Women's Hospital and the Graduate School of Biological Sciences Committee at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Earlier in his career, Geoff was a corporate attorney in New York City. Prior to receiving his law degree, he served as a Research Associate at Harvard Business School. Geoff received a B.A. (with honors) from Williams College and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
