Steven I. Hochberg, Co-Founder, Chairman

Steve has been an active founder and investor in early-stage medical technology companies since 1992. Companies co-founded by Steve include Biomerix Corporation, Eminent Research Systems Inc. (acquired by PPD, Inc. in 2003), Clinsights, Inc. (acquired by PPD, Inc. in 2003), Med-E-Systems/AHT Corporation (initial public offering in 1996), and Physicians’ Online (acquired by Mediconsult in 1999). Steve currently serves on the Board of Directors of Biomerix Corporation, Synecor, LLC, Crosstrees Medical, Inc., Ouroboros and SpineView.    Steve is member of the Board of Governors of the New York Academy of Sciences.  Steve is also Chairman of the Board of Continuum Health Partners, one of the largest non-profit hospital systems in New York City.  Earlier in his career, Steve was an investment banker with Alex. Brown & Sons and a strategy consultant with Bain & Company in the technology and healthcare areas.  Steve holds a B.S. from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Kenneth G. Hayes, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer

Ken joined Biomerix Corporation as President and CEO in March 2008. He has established and led executive teams through the product development, clinical research, and commercial rollout of a wide range of medical devices. He has a track record of identifying and successfully executing substantial business partnerships and brings to Biomerix a breadth of financial, strategic and operational experience and relationships.

Ken previously served as President and CEO of Radiant Medical, which was acquired by Zoll Medical in 2007. From 1997 to 1999, Ken was President of Surgical Navigation Technologies and on the Management Board of Sofamor Danek which was acquired by Medtronic in 1999. Prior to that, Ken served as President of USCI, a division of C.R. Bard, as President/CEO of MDI Instruments which he helped to found, and as President/COO of American Surgical Technologies. Ken began his medical device career with Johnson & Johnson, where he spent 17 years in a range of progressively more senior positions with Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Vistakon and Ethicon, Inc. He started his career with Procter & Gamble after graduating with a B.S. degree in Business Administration & Marketing with honors from Marist College.

Peter D. Costantino, MD, FACS, Co-Founder

Dr. Costantino is co-founder of Biomerix Corporation and a current member of the Board of Directors. He is Executive Director of The New York Head & Neck Institute, Senior Vice-President of Head & Neck Surgery Service Line for the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System and Director for The Center for Cranial Base Surgery at New York Head and Neck Institute – MEETH. Dr. Costantino is dual board certified in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, and in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is also dual fellowship trained in Head & Neck Oncologic/Reconstructive Surgery, and in Cranial Base Tumor Surgery. Dr. Costantino spearheaded the development of collagen-based soft tissue implants that generate new, living tissue in patients. He also developed the first calcium phosphate-based cement for human cranio-facial reconstruction. Dr. Costantino founded Osteogenics Corporation that developed the calcium phosphate reconstructive cement that is now sold under the trade names of Bone Source®, and Hydroset® by Stryker Corporation. Dr. Costantino also served on the Board of Directors of LifeCell Corporation and was a co-founder of Parallax Medical. Dr. Costantino was granted a B.S. degree from the University of Notre Dame and a medical degree with high honors from Northwestern University.

Morton P. Hyman

Mr. Morton Hyman is Founder and Principal of MPH Enterprises, LLC, a private equity investment company. He is retired from Overseas Shipholding Group, Inc., owners and operators of one of the world’s largest tanker fleets engaged in the transportation of bulk commodities in the domestic and international markets, having served as President from 1971 through 1999; President and Chief Executive Officer 1999 to 2003 and Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2000 to 2003. Mr. Hyman has an extensive history of civic activities, most notably Chairman of the Board of the Sabin Vaccine Institute, a Fellow and Member of the Board of Trustees of The New York Academy of Medicine, and as a member of the Board of the New York Academy of Sciences. He also serves as Chairman Emeritus, Board of Trustees, Continuum Health Partners, Inc., a nonprofit hospital system in New York City and as a Member of the Board of Overseers at The Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. Mr. Hyman is an alumnus of Cornell Law School.

Aaron Nieman

Aaron Nieman is a Managing Director and head of Asian investments at Sigma Capital Management, L.P., a division of SAC Capital. Within Sigma, Mr. Nieman is in charge of managing a $500 million Asian Long/Short hedge fund located in Hong Kong. Other responsibilities include managing the Developmental Portfolio Management Program, whereby Mr. Nieman has management responsibility and mentors all new hedge fund personnel joining the Sigma Asia Division in New York and Hong Kong. Prior to rejoining SAC Capital in May 2009, Mr. Nieman was a Senior Managing Director of The Blackstone Group and Managing Partner/Chief Investment Officer of Blackstone A.M.N. Advisors. At Blackstone A.M.N., Mr. Nieman was the Blackstone Partner responsible for event-driven hedge fund investments in the Asia Pacific region. From 2005 to 2007, Mr. Nieman was a Managing Director at Canvas Capital Management, L.P., a division of SAC Capital, in New York and San Francisco. At SAC/Canvas, Mr. Nieman was responsible for merger arbitrage and event-driven investments in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to that, Mr. Nieman worked in Tokyo, managing Asia Pacific investments for the Global Trading Strategies (Formerly Risk Arbitrage) Division at Lehman Brothers. Mr. Nieman began his career at Lehman Brothers in New York in 1995. Mr. Nieman received an M.B.A. with high honors in finance and accounting from the University of Chicago and a B.A. in economics from the University of North Carolina.

Stanton J. Rowe

Stanton currently holds the positions of Chief Scientific Officer and Corporate Vice President of Advanced Technology at Edwards Lifesciences. He is responsible for all internal early stage development work at Edwards Lifesciences, as well as efforts to identify external technologies focused on developing a range of minimally invasive and percutaneous approaches to heart valve replacement or repair. Stanton previously served as President and CEO of Percutaneous Valve Technologies Inc. (PVT), which was acquired by Edwards in January 2004. Prior to PVT, which he helped to found in 1999, Stanton was Corporate Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Planning for Datascope Corp. He also held the position of Vice President of Business Development for Johnson & Johnson’s Interventional Systems Division (JJIS), responsible for the company’s coronary stent development efforts. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama.

Geoffrey W. Smith

Geoff is the Managing Partner of Ascent Biomedical Ventures, a New York based seed and early stage investor in biomedical technology companies including medical devices and drugs. Geoff has been an active founder, manager, and investor in healthcare and technology companies since 1995. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Anterios, Inc., Azevan Pharmaceuticals, Biomerix Corporation, Metronome Therapeutics, and TargAnox, Inc., and is a Board Observer for Cara Therapeutics. Geoff is a Visiting Scholar at Rockefeller University where he founded and directs the University’s Science & Economics Program. He is also a member of the Leadership Council of the Biomedical Research Institute at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and the Graduate School of Biological Sciences Committee at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Earlier in his career, Geoff was a corporate attorney in New York City. Prior to receiving his law degree, he served as a Research Associate at Harvard Business School. Geoff received a B.A. (with honors) from Williams College and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
